Land Based Training L3 Horticulture and L4 Sustainability trainees celebrated their course completions with a graduation and presentation of their NZ Certificates in L3 Horticulture and NZ Certificate in L4 Sustainable Primary Production on Friday 27/1/23 at the Manunui Hall.
The classes have been running in Taumarunui throughout 2022 to teach, upskill and provide skills not only for Employment, but skills to be self-sufficient in food production and many other aspects of Horticulture and Sustainable Primary Production. The courses are hands-on and trainees have reaped the benefits of being able to complete the practical side of the courses at the Taumarunui Whakaarotahi Trust Maara Kai in Manunui.
Land Based Training Horticulture Tutor Merryn Broderson said it has been a fantastic 2-3 years and a real pleasure being able to work alongside Te Awa Nui A Rua Trust (who brings these wonderful training opportunities to the Community) and the Taumarunui Whakaarotahi Trust in providing such valuable courses. Trainees learn all manner of skills associated with growing kai, native nursery production, riparian planting, irrigation systems, pest & disease management, soil science, market gardening, permaculture property design, food forests, weed management, plant propagation etc. Merryn moves onto tutoring at Land Based Training’s New Plymouth site this year and is looking forward to the challenge of managing a well-established site in Taranaki.
