On Farm Skills & Systems Programmes
This programme is for people who have an interest in growing their confidence and capability in farming and have regular access to a practical farm environment. You’ll develop practical skills in farm systems, livestock production, technology, sustainability, and risk management, helping you step into roles with greater responsibility.
Farming Systems (Dairy) Level 3
Start your career in dairy farming with practical, hands-on training in real farming systems. This Level 3 programme is designed to help you build real-world dairy farming skills while learning alongside experienced tutors in a supportive campus environment. Gain confidence working with livestock, understanding dairy farm systems, and using sustainable farming practices that prepare you for employment in New Zealand’s primary industries.
Farming Systems (Sheep) Level 3
Start your career in agriculture with practical, hands-on training in sheep and dry stock farming systems. This Level 3 programme is designed to help you build real-world farming skills while learning alongside experienced tutors in a supportive campus environment. Gain confidence working with livestock, understanding farm systems, and using sustainable farming practices that prepare you for employment in New Zealand’s primary industries.
Farming Business Essentials (Level 4)
STUDY FOR FREE: We are offering this course completely FREE* to anyone who enrols into an intake on or prior to 16th November 2026!
Gain practical business skills to confidently grow and manage a successful smaller scale farming or agri-business operation. This flexible online programme is designed for people owning or managing a farm, including share milkers or contractors, with real-world learning you can apply directly to your business.

Agriculture (Level 4)
You’ll build on your existing farming skills and prepare for greater responsibility on farm. This programme focuses on coordinating farm activities, using technology, and supporting livestock and farm performance, leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Level 4) and progression into junior management roles.
Livestock Production Management (Level 5)
You’ll develop the skills to lead and manage livestock production systems, focusing on planning, performance monitoring, and improving productivity and sustainability. This programme prepares you for senior roles in livestock production and farm management while gaining a Level 5 qualification.
I got my level 3 Dairy Farming through Land Based Training. It was so cool. I met nice people and the tutor is awesome. I class them all as the naki whanau.
It’s a good mix of having a good time with the other students and tutors and getting the work done – it’s definitely easier to do the paperwork when its more enjoyable and done with good company…

Am I eligible for Fees Free?
Our Level 3–5 programmes may be eligible for Fees Free under the government’s final year fees free scheme. This means you’ll pay your fees upfront to Land Based Training, and if you’re eligible, you can receive a refund through Inland Revenue after you complete your study. Eligibility depends on your previous study and training history.
