The overall aim of this programme is to provide the pastoral farming sector with individuals who have the skills and knowledge to assist in managing the factors which influence the quantity and quality of pastoral livestock production.

Graduates of the programme will be able to:
Assist with the management of feed supply and demand to meet livestock production targets Assist with key livestock production tasks in a pastoral farming context
This qualification may build on the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (Level 2) with Primary Industries Vocational Pathway endorsement and may lead on to the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Level 4) with strands in Arable Farming, Dairy Farming, and Livestock Farming [Ref: 2212].
Graduates of this qualification are likely to be employed at a junior level within the livestock sector as farm assistants or shepherds. They may be employed full-time in a production role or perform the work as part of a wider on-farm role.
Duration of Study
14 weeks full time or 24 weeks part time
12 months prior farming experience
Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools or other teaching institutions is not English, require an ELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 5.5 or above (or equivalent) for enrolment.
All applicants will be required to meet with the tutor or field officer of the programme they are applying for prior to starting – this will be an informal conversation which will include covering the programme expectations and getting a better understanding of suitability for the programme. Where there are more applicants than places available or the programme is not the best fit, a waiting list will be kept or our team will work with you to provide a suitable alternative. On completion of this conversation the tutor will assist with filling in the full application form to move into the next part of the enrolment process.
